I was saddened to hear the news that Wallace had passed away and wish to extend my sincere condolences to his family. I have the deepest admiration and respect for what he has accomplished and most of all who the person he represented.
When I think of Wallace, two things stand out in particular. When opening an employee cafeteria at one of the Maple Leaf facilites, I was encouraged to give Wallace a call and ask for his insight. I was also told to have a pen ready. An hour and a half plus 4 pages of notes later, I had received a wealth of insights and advice. Most of all, I was amazed that it didn't matter how busy he was or what level I had in the organization. He cared enough to make the time.
I also remember Wallace as a shining example at the Foundations of Leadership Academy on the importance of building credibility through character and reputation. I know I have gained only a partial insight of how greatly he was admired and respected.
These two examples, amongst others, will stay with me through my entire career. Thank you Wallace.

We found Wallace McCain to be thoughtful, gentle and very generous to his staff in Jamaica, and as property managers, his frankness and integrity in conducting his business can never be replicated.
To his wife Margaret, children - Scott, Michael, Martha, Eleanor and grand children we wish you to know that we share the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He gave much love and we all loved him deeply in return.

I first met the McCain brothers in Fredericton, NB in the early 1970s. Harrison was then director of the New Brunswick Development Corporation of which I was a member. He soon invited my wife and I up to Florenceville and welcomed us in his home. After we moved to Toronto I had the occasion to visit Harrison on quite a few occasions as a consultant. On these occasions I also said hello to Wallace, who always greeted me in a friendly manner. Once Wallace moved to Toronto, we greeted each other quite a few times, as we lived in the same neighborhood. Wallace invited me for tea at his Maple Leaf Foods office. We reminisced about old times. A great Canadian, and an awesome human being.

The world has lost a fine man with true integrity. My son graduated from MTA in 2008 and when we flew down for the graduation we were amazed at the generosity of the McCain family. Every time I buy a McCain product I smile and think of what a wonderfull family they are. He will be missed by many.My sincere sympathy to the family.

Hello Michael and family
My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I recently lost a beloved member of my family on May 5th also after a battle with cancer.
Michael, my father is the same age as your Dad and he grew up in Grand Falls NB. I have grown up hearing stories about your Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle, and of course your father. My Dad and I sat over a cup of tea yesterday and I listened while my father told me wonderful stories about your family.
When i was hired at ML, my father phoned the whole family down east with such pride, that once again a family member was employed by such a great family.
I just wanted you to know that everyone in my entire family has the greatest respect for your entire family, not just as employers but as members of the community. We all have the greatest sympathies for your family.
As long as these stories are told, your father's and your family's legacy will be with us forever.
My very best regards

I am sorry to say I never met this amazing man in person. I have friends who were very good friends and I know they share the family sorrow.

I just returned from a Mount Allison University reunion where I saw the McCain's generosity in the new Student Center.
That building will be used by thousands of students over the next 100 years. What an amazing legacy to leave behind. I have always been proud of graduating from MTA, but also proud of the McCain family association to the school.

Sincere condolences to Mrs McCain and the entire McCain family from the Pediatric Medicine Complex Care team at Sickkids hospital in Toronto. While we never had the pleasure of knowing Mr McCain, he was a generous benefactor of our program, and his generosity has made our job that much easier and the lives of many children with complex medical problems and their families a little easier.
